In June 1763 on the southern flank, between 2500 and 2600 m altitude, a fissure opened between the Schiena dell'Asino and today's Pian del Lago.

In just under three months this eruption emitted 100 million cubic meters of lava and built a cinder cone called "La Montagnola", one of the largest mountains of the volcano, now the arrival station of the Etna cable car.

To the eye it offers a vision of pale, almost claret pink. The sense of smell immediately picks up hints of wild Mediterranean herbs, forming, together with elegant notes of raspberries, strawberries and wild blackberries, a full and intense bouquet.
